Dominic LeBlanc has announced the ban of 324 additional firearms under its increasingly draconian gun control laws.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has taken another drastic step in its gun control crusade, announcing an immediate ban on 324 additional firearms.
These newly prohibited models join the over 2,000 makes already outlawed in Canada under a sweeping anti-gun agenda.
But the controversy doesn’t end there. The Trudeau administration revealed that some of these confiscated firearms could be donated to Ukraine.
The ban, announced Thursday by Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, eliminates the legal use, sale, and importation of these firearms, with only limited exceptions for transport or transfer. This, LeBlanc claimed, is part of a broader effort to combat “gun violence.”
Yet, rather than addressing the criminal use of firearms, the government appears to be targeting law-abiding citizens. The federal plan includes a taxpayer-funded buyback program to confiscate these firearms from responsible owners, many of whom use them for sport shooting or hunting.
“Today, the government is adding a further 324 makes and models of assault-style firearms to the list of prohibited firearms in Canada. This prohibition takes effect immediately,” said LeBlanc.
“This means these firearms can no longer be legally used, sold or imported in Canada, and can only can only be transferred or transported under extremely limited circumstances. As part of that process, the government of Canada has committed to the Ukrainian government to identify whether some of these guns could be donated to support the fight for democracy in Ukraine,” LeBlanc continued.

“Firearms designed for the battlefield plainly do not belong in our communities. Too often, these types of weapons have been used to commit some of the worst atrocities Canada has ever witnessed. That’s why since 2015, we’ve done more than any previous government on gun control, and why we’re pursuing further action today – to ensure that Canada never again experiences a mass shooting,” LeBlanc said.
“Canadians deserve to live in communities that are safe, secure, and free of gun violence. Weapons of war have no place on our streets, and we are continuing to deliver on our commitments to restrict access to firearms that pose a risk to the safety and security of Quebecers and Canadians right across this country,” said Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Quebec Lieutenant.
Defense Minister Bill Blair revealed that Canada is collaborating with Ukraine to donate these prohibited firearms to support Ukraine’s defense against Russia. Blair remarked, “Every bit of assistance we can offer to the Ukrainians is one step toward their victory.”
