Ronald Johnson by: Fred Ramos/Bloomberg
President Trump has nominated CIA veteran Ronald Johnson, his former Ambassador to El Salvador, to serve as Ambassador to Mexico in his next administration.
This is despite several media reports and rumors from sources close to the Trump team that Kari Lake was a top contender for the role. Supporters of Lake have also called for Trump to give Lake a job somewhere on the border, citing her advocacy for Trump’s border policies while fighting against the rigged system in her bids for Governor and Senate in Arizona.
The Gateway Pundit reported earlier that several sources familiar with the matter said Lake was in talks with Trump about serving as his Ambassador to Mexico.

However, Trump decided to go with Ronald Johnson, which is somewhat of a letdown for many.
Trump made the announcement in a Truth Social post-Tuesday evening, noting that Johnson “worked tirelessly with Salvadoran authorities and our team to reduce violent crime and illegal migration to the lowest levels in History” as Ambassador to El Salvador:
Trump: I am pleased to nominate Ronald (Ron) Johnson to serve as the United States Ambassador to Mexico. Ron will work closely with our great Secretary of State Nominee, Marco Rubio, to promote our Nation’s security and prosperity through strong America First Foreign Policies. During my First Term, Ron served as the Ambassador to El Salvador, where he worked tirelessly with Salvadoran authorities and our team to reduce violent crime and illegal migration to the lowest levels in History. He also served our Country for over twenty years with the Central Intelligence Agency after a distinguished career in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret. He graduated from the National Intelligence University with a Master of Strategic Intelligence.
Congratulations Ron. Together, we will put an end to migrant crime, stop the illegal flow of Fentanyl and other dangerous drugs into our Country and, MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN!
As one user pointed out on X, Lake may have “a target on her back there given her vocal disdain for cartel garbage going on here” and is probably better off serving in a different role here in the United States.
Good. Not tthat she wouldn’t have done a great job…but she has zero business in that position with a target on her back there given her vocal disdain for cartel garbage going on here. I never once considered this report to be true.

Real America’s Voice correspondent Ben Bergquam has suggested that Lake, whose last two elections were stolen, should serve as Trump’s Elections Czar and “go after these corrupt election officials and the politicians that have sold out to the cartels and communist traitors.”
Perhaps there is room for Lake at the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division alongside conservative attorney Harmeet Dhillon, who President Trump nominated Monday to serve as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. If anyone knows about stolen elections, it’s Kari Lake, who was and remains an unwavering backer of Trump’s criticism of the stolen 2020 election.
If Arizona gets away with stealing the election from @KariLake again I hope President @realDonaldTrump brings her on as the elections Czar to go after these corrupt election officials and the politicians that have sold out to the cartels and communist traitors! #TrumpWon #KariWon… pic.twitter.com/MdRbwgj3EI

Hopefully, Trump will still have room for Kari Lake in his administration, and her incredible talent will not be wasted.
