Secretary of State Marco Rubio has slammed Germany for their continued harassment of the opposition Alternative for Germany party.
Germany’s intelligence agency announced on Friday that it had classified the party as a “proven right-wing extremist organization” because of their opposition to mass immigration and progressive ideology
The decision made by Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) marks a shift from suspicion to a formal designation.
While the ruling doesn’t outlaw the AfD or prevent it from running in elections, it grants authorities expanded powers to monitor the party more aggressively.
This including the deployment of undercover agents and intercepting communications, all under judicial supervision.
In a post on the X platform, Rubio described the move as “tyranny in disguise.”
He wrote:
Germany just gave its spy agency new powers to surveil the opposition. That’s not democracy—it’s tyranny in disguise.
What is truly extremist is not the popular AfD—which took second in the recent election—but rather the establishment’s deadly open border immigration policies that the AfD opposes.
Germany should reverse course.
The German Foreign Office responded to his comments by claiming that they are merely upholding democracy and making a thinly veiled reference to the legacy of Nazi Germany:
This is democracy. This decision is the result of a thorough & independent investigation to protect our Constitution & the rule of law.
It is independent courts that will have the final say. We have learnt from our history that rightwing extremism needs to be stopped.

The Germany establishment has long waged a campaign of intimidation and harassment against the AfD, which finished second in the country’s recent federal elections but were blocked by the globalist coalition from forming a government.
Back in January, lawmakers from the then-ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD) debated the idea of banning it altogether, making a mockery of their supposed support for democracy.
“Calls for the AfD to be banned are completely absurd and expose the anti-democratic attitude of those making these demands,” said Alice Weidel, co-leader of the party, said at the time.
“The repeated calls for a ban show that the other parties have long since run out of substantive arguments against our political proposals.”
