British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is believed to be the lone survivor of the catastrophic crash involving Air India Flight 171.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad with a total of 241 fatalities confirmed so far, including both pilots and several individuals on the ground.
Eyewitnesses report the aircraft ascended to roughly 625 ft before issuing a frantic mayday — then dropped rapidly into a hostel building at B. J. Medical College, igniting massive explosions and plumes of toxic smoke.
The site has turned into ground zero of one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters in years—possibly claiming over 290 lives when including ground casualties, according to The Guardian.

Reports reveal Ramesh was seated in 11A — an emergency exit row. Amazingly, he walked away with only non-life-threatening injuries and is now receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Asarwa, Ahmedabad.
The Guardian reported:
Ahmedabad police have said there was at least one survivor from the flight. According to media reports, the sole survivor of the crash was 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian who lives in London and was in Ahmedabad visiting family. He said he had lived in London for the past 20 years and had travelled to India with his brother who was also on the plane
“Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,” said Ramesh, speaking to the Hindustan Times. He said he “impact injuries”, including bruising on his chest, eyes and feet but was otherwise lucid and conscious.
Ramesh, who still had his boarding pass, told the Hindustan Times:
When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital.
