Although the FBI has not named any of the suspects, Dearborn is a Muslim majority city and has recently been in the news. On September 9, during a city council meeting the city’s Mayor Abdullah Hammoud told Dearborn resident Ted Barham he wasn’t welcome in Dearborn after he objected to a decision by Wayne County to name a major street in Dearborn after longtime Arab-American leader Osama Siblani. Barham’s objection to the street being named after the 70-year-old Siblani was due to his ties to terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah.
According to Census data, Dearborn has a population of about 109,000 and became the first U.S. city with an Arab-majority population in 2023, the BBC reported.
