In a gut-wrenching announcement posted to social media, the father of U.S. Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, shared his profound grief over her death following an ambush shooting near the White House.
On Thanksgiving, the father, Gary Beckstrom, wrote, “My baby girl has passed to glory. If I don’t talk to you don’t be offend this has been a horrible tragedy.”
The comments on the post were flooded with prayers and support.
The young soldier from West Virginia was gunned down alongside her colleague, Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, by a migrant from Afghanistan who had been allowed into this country by the Biden administration.
The attack unfolded on Wednesday, when the two West Virginia National Guard members, deployed to Washington, D.C., as part of “Operation DC Safe and Beautiful” to combat rising crime, were ambushed in broad daylight.
The two heroes had volunteered to work that day so others could be home with their families for Thanksgiving.
“She volunteered to be there on Thanksgiving — working today — she volunteers, as did many of those guardsmen and women so other people could be home with their families,” US Attorney General Pam Bondi said during an appearance on Fox News on Thursday, prior to her passing.
“Yet now, their families are in hospital rooms with them while they are fighting for their lives.”

The shooter, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who entered the U.S. in 2021 after allegedly assisting the CIA against the Taliban.
Lakanwal was shot by responding officers and hospitalized in serious condition before his arrest.
Staff Sgt. Wolfe, meanwhile, remains in critical condition and is “fighting for his life” at a local hospital, with no further updates on his recovery as of Friday.
Charges against Lakanwal were swiftly upgraded to first-degree murder following Beckstrom’s death, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro. He also faces attempted murder for the attack on Wolfe, along with additional counts related to the shooting.
The FBI is investigating the motive, but officials have not yet classified it as terrorism, despite the suspect’s background and the targeted nature of the attack.
President Donald Trump, on the other hand, wasted no time blasting the incident as a “terrorist attack” and pinning the blame squarely on Biden’s failed immigration policies.

In a late-night Thanksgiving post on Truth Social, Trump announced Beckstrom’s death and Wolfe’s critical status, vowing to “permanently pause migration from all Third World countries” like Afghanistan.
Trump additionally promised to end federal benefits for noncitizens, denaturalize threats, and deport those “non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
