A security expert observes an increase in violent attacks on innocent Americans, raising the question: Why is this happening?
The question arises on the heels of The Gateway Pundit’s report about New York’s discreet release of almost 7,000 dangerous illegal immigrants, with no prior notice given to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This group includes rapists, murderers, terrorists, and repeat offenders (emphasis mine).
The Gateway Pundit spoke to Greg Shaffer, who has over three decades of experience in law enforcement. This includes 20 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he spent six years as part of the elite Hostage Rescue Team (HRT). He currently operates his own security company.
For Shaffer, the explanation for the current prevalence of violence on the streets of America is twofold. On the one hand, understanding the reasons behind the increased acts of violence is important. Secondly, personal awareness, or lack of, plays a crucial role.
It’s painfully clear to most people why the violence has surged, and although he wished to remain apolitical, Shaffer wants everyone to grasp the reasons behind the increase in violence directed at innocent bystanders.
In light of New York’s release of 6,947 criminal illegal aliens since January 20, consider the Blue city perpetrator who had over 50 prior arrests and sucker punched a subway rider onto the train tracks at the end of October. Likewise, note the violent perpetrator that had more than 70 prior arrests and has been recently charged with a federal crime for dousing a 26-year-old woman in gasoline and setting her on fire in a Chicago train car.
In a similar vein, consider the North Carolina man with a lengthy criminal record who was indicted last month by a federal grand jury for fatally stabbing a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee on a train in Charlotte.
“These career criminals are not being kept in jail or prison,” Shaffer pointed out. “They’re being released back out into public due to liberal bail reforms and the deliberate decisions of Leftist judges to put them back on the streets.”
In his opinion, “This is not an accident; it’s intentional.” He argued, “There are some people, including some judges, who want to see the destruction of this country supported by acts of violence against American citizens.” For this reason, he also contended that if judges are complicit, “they should be held accountable.”
President Donald Trump took a step in that direction, firing eight immigration judges in New York City on Monday.
However, it’s equally important to consider personal responsibility when it comes to ensuring one’s own safety. “First and foremost,” Shaffer said, “a person needs to be aware of their surroundings.” This refers to “situational awareness, simply knowing what is happening around you,” he explained. Being caught off guard has shown to be lethal in numerous cases through the years.
A person needs to have a plan in place when facing an act of violence, he said. “They need to practice what they’ll do in the even they are caught in a critical incident, because the body will react accordingly if it has been conditioned to do so.” As he stated in his book, Stay Safe: Security Secrets for Today’s Dangerous World, “the body cannot go where the mind has never been.”
Shaffer offers a striking analogy in the book. “If you’re clothes catch on fire,” he pointed out, “everyone is told from a very early age to stop, drop, and roll.” What he implies here is that “everybody has a plan” that’s been ingrained in them since early childhood.
“You need to have the same kind of plan in your mind and rehearse it in your mind for an act of violence,” he said. “Whether it’s something like an armed robbery or an active shooter event, if you haven’t rehearsed it in your mind, you will freeze in fear.” And according to the expert, “when you freeze in fear, bad things tend to happen.”
However, Shaffer said, if a person rehearses an appropriate response in their mind, their mind will more likely default to that response, causing their body to respond based on what it has previously contemplated.
“That’s why if you do catch on fire, you stop, drop, and roll,” he explained. “It’s not something you’re thinking about; it’s just been ingrained in you.”
“With an active shooter, a lot of people mistake the sound for fireworks, but you need to train your mind to hear gunfire,” he offered. “And when you recognize that gunfire, get off the X—get the hell away from the gunfire.”
Be vigilant.
