Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali alien herself, cried victim over the welfare fraud that benefited Somali aliens and was sent back to their motherland while attacking Trump for calling them out.
During a Sunday appearance on CBS’s Face the Nation with host Margaret Brennan, Omar decried the criticism she and Minnesota politicians are facing over the billions of dollars in Somali welfare fraud in the state.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, 70 members of the Somali community in Minnesota were involved in stealing $250 million in COVID funds that were intended to feed children. Millions of dollars were stolen from American taxpayers and sent overseas to Somalia, and 80% of the money has not been recovered.
Seven defendants were tried in connection with the scheme on charges related to stealing more than $40 million in taxpayer funds, and five were found guilty. However, the FBI is still investigating an attempt by a Somali woman to bribe one of the jurors with $120,000 in cash.
But the fraud goes deeper, with multiple schemes like this over the last five years.
Per the New York Times, “Federal prosecutors say that 59 people have been convicted in those schemes so far, and that more than $1 billion in taxpayers’ money has been stolen in three plots they are investigating.”
And the Somali community is engaged in multifaceted fraud in the welfare system wherever money is available. “75% of the Somali population in Minnesota is on welfare. But that’s likely a significant undercount of just how much of a financial burden the Somali refugee population is imposing on this country,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Miller said in a recent interview, declaring the Somali fraud scandal “the single greatest theft of taxpayer dollars through welfare fraud in American history.”
But Omar claims that her people are the real victims of this fraud, saying, “It’s been really frustrating” for real Americans to not acknowledge that the Somalis are “upset and angry about the fraud that has occurred.”

Brennan: Of the 87 people charged, all but eight are of Somali dissent, and that has added to the spotlight being put specifically on your community. Why do you think this fraud was allowed to get so widespread?
Omar: I want to say, you know, this also has an impact, um, on ,uh, Somalis because we are also taxpayers in Minnesota. We also could have benefited from the program and the money that was stolen. And so, it’s been really frustrating for people to not acknowledge the fact that we’re, you know, we’re also, as Minnesotans as taxpayers, really upset and angry about the fraud that has occurred.
In another segment of the interview, Omar responded to Trump condemning the third-world Somali community that has robbed the American taxpayers. And again, she cried victim, claiming that his “dehumanizing” rhetoric is “dangerous” and that Trump has an “unhealthy and creepy obsession that he has with me.”

Brennan: There are 80,000 people of Somali descent in your state, but the President has been very focused, not just on them but on you. In this extraordinary Cabinet meeting, he said, Somalis, quote, come from hell. They complain and they do nothing but bitch. Take a listen… That knocking is vehement agreement from his Cabinet members there. I just wonder what the reaction is in your district to have that from the highest office in the land.
Omar: It’s disgusting. It’s completely disgusting. These are Americans that he is calling garbage, and we feel like there is an unhealthy obsession that he has on the Somali community and an unhealthy and creepy obsession that he has with me. I think it is also really important for us to remember that this kind of hateful rhetoric and this level of dehumanizing can lead to dangerous actions by people who listen to the President.
As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier, Omar labeled Stephen Miller, a Jewish adviser to Trump, a Nazi over his assertion that third-world immigrants fail to assimilate to American culture.
