A Wellington, Utah, father is facing an attempted murder charge after stabbing a man 17 times for making comments about the man’s daughter.
Thad Grule tells police that he stabbed the man “in an effort to protect his daughter,” investigators said.
“He confessed, stating that he intended to kill [the victim] to protect his daughter,” they wrote.
Investigators reportedly say that Grulle lured the victim, whom he had met days earlier at the post office, out of his apartment by asking if he wanted to go on a walk to grab some food.
That’s when he attacked him. The man survived the attack, but his condition is unknown.
Grule reportedly told detectives that the victim was a registered sex offender, according to online records.
It is unclear what comments the stabbed man made about Grule’s daughter.

Thad James Gurule, 32, was booked into Carbon County Jail Wednesday.
The investigation began Monday when police were called to home in Wellington after reports of a man covered in blood standing on the porch. Emergency personnel eventually found the victim a short distance away from the location with multiple stab wounds.
The victim, who wasn’t identified, was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors say they determined he had been stabbed 17 times. Officers spoke to the victim, who stated that he didn’t know the name of his attacker but that he had met him several days earlier at the post office.
Officers identified the alleged attacker as Gurule, later contacting him at his home, where he admitted to assaulting the man because he allegedly made comments about Gurule’s daughter.
Grule had denied stabbing the man, but he admitted to abandoning his weapon at the scene. He also admitted to the assault.
“The victim allegedly told police that the suspect stabbed him repeatedly and then leaned over him, saying he should think again before making comments about his daughter. The victim said he then left him on the ground,” KUTV reports.
A subsequent search of his property discovered suspected drug paraphernalia, including methamphetamine and marijuana.
Grule reportedly faces attempted murder and drug charges.
