Federal prosecutors asked a court on Friday to dismiss charges against two of the officers involved in the death of Breonna Taylor.
In August 22, four police officers were charged with federal crimes related to the death of Breonna Taylor.
Then-US Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022 announced the Justice Department charged four current and former Louisville police officers in connection with the raid that killed Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was killed during a knock and announce drug raid on March 13, 2020 during which her boyfriend shot at police and they returned fire. LMPD Sgt. Jon Mattingly was shot during the exchange and has now recovered.
In September 2020, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced there would be no charges filed against two of the Louisville police officers involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor, while the third was charged with “wanton endangerment.”
Detective Brett Hankison was indicted on three counts of “wanton endangerment in the first degree” by a grand jury.
Detective Joshua Jaynes and Sergeant Kyle Meany were charged with federal civil rights and obstruction charges for allegedly ‘falsifying a search warrant affidavit.’
“Former Detective Joshua Jaynes, 40, and LMPD Sergeant Kyle Meany, 35, are charged with federal civil rights and obstruction offenses for their roles in preparing and approving a falsified search warrant affidavit that resulted in the warrant that led to Taylor’s death,” the DOJ previously said.
On Friday, federal prosecutors moved to dismiss the charges against Jaynes and Meany.
“Federal prosecutors have asked a judge to dismiss the charges against two Louisville officers accused of falsifying the warrant that led police to raid Breonna Taylor’s apartment the night she was killed six years ago,” the AP reported.
“Prosecutors said in a court filing Friday that their review of the case showed the charges against former Detective Joshua Jaynes and former Sgt. Kyle Meany should be “dismissed in the interest of justice.”” – AP reported.
