A former Virginia Democratic politician killed his wife and committed suicide in a horrifying incident overnight.
As WUSA reported, former Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax shot and killed his wife and then himself in a murder-suicide last night in Annandale.
From WUSA:
Former Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax shot and killed his wife, Cerina, and then himself in an overnight murder-suicide in Annandale, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said.
Authorities were called to the 8100 block of Guinevere Drive shortly after midnight Thursday morning. When WUSA9 crews arrived, police were investigating at 8106 Guinevere Drive, which is owned by the former lieutenant governor.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and woman dead inside a home. Fairfax County Police Commander Chris Cosgrove said it appears the man shot the woman before shooting himself in what appears to be a domestic-related incident.
Justin and Cerina’s children, 16-year-old son Cameron, 16, and 14-year-old daughter Carys, were home at the time of the incident, but thankfully escaped unharmed.
Cameron called 911 to say that he believed his father stabbed his mother and that he did not know where his dad was.
The Daily Mail reports Cerina filed for divorce from Justin last year and and the proceedings were underway at the time of their deaths. Police say this may have sparked the horrifying act.
Despite the divorce filing, the couple were still living together despite being separated according to Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis.
Police said that they were previously called to Justin Fairfax’s home after Fairfax he that Cerina assaulted him. Investigators determined that the alleged assault was a hoax and no arrests were made.
As WUSA notes, Fairfax served as lieutenant governor of Virginia under Governor Ralph “Blackface” Northam. He was elected in 2019, but his time in office was marred by scandal. These included sexual assault and r*pe allegations by two women.
Dr. Vanessa Tyson alleged that Fairfax sexually assaulted her 2004 at the Democratic National Convention in Boston, while Meredith Watson said he violated her in 2000 at Duke University.
Fairfax denied the allegations, claiming they were consensual. He later met with the FBI amongst an investigation into whether the allegations were politically corrdinated.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
