President Trump on Saturday lashed out at US District Judge Richard Leon, accusing him of “putting our country in danger” by stalling Trump’s White House Ballroom construction and demanding that he “get out of the way, and FAST.”
Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, temporarily halted construction on the ballroom in March, then, after an appeals court sent the case back to trial, Leon limited construction on the White House Ballroom, allowing Trump to proceed with building an underground bunker. Above-ground construction on the 90,000-square-foot ballroom was halted.
Trump responded to the ruling in April, calling Richard Leon “a man who has gone out of his way to undermine National Security, and to make sure that this Great Gift to America gets delayed, or doesn’t get built.”
Trump is still fighting in court to continue construction, now arguing that the recent assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner last month further justifies the ballroom for national security.
Another point he’s emphasized is the function of the White House addition for defense purposes, housing drones in case of an attack on Washington, DC.
“This will someday save Washington,” Trump said with an image of his proposed drone port on top of the White House. “Judge Leon has to get out of the way, and FAST. He is putting our Country in danger!”
Trump previously shared his drone port concept and slammed the Judge, writing, “Judge Richard Leon should stop playing games with America’s Security!”
“If anything happens, he will be held responsible for the Death and Destruction caused to our Country,” Trump said, noting that “with the advent of highly sophisticated, and powerful, modern day weaponry, we can no longer defend Washington, D.C., with rifles and pistols, alone.”
However, lawmakers, including Republicans, are also trying to prevent the President from building the ballroom.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, the Senate voted on Friday to pass a reconciliation package to fund the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration agencies, but only after removing $1 billion in funding for the ballroom.
Other attempts were made to block the construction of Trump’s White House Ballroom entirely. Six Republicans, Susan Collins (ME), Jon Husted (OH), Jerry Moran (KS), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Dan Sullivan (AK), and Thom Tillis (NC), voted in favor of Democrat Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley’s failed amendment to require Congressional approval for the construction.
