A desperate and angry Illinois Governor JB Pritzker took a cheap shot at ICE agents on Thursday and dared to beg the Trump Administration to do him a favor. One can safely say that won’t happen.
Pritzker wrote a letter on Wednesday requesting that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and top ICE officials pause immigration enforcement throughout the Windy City for three days so children can “safely celebrate Halloween.” The Chicago Sun-Times was the first to obtain the letter.
From Sun-Times:
“Illinois families deserve to spend Halloween weekend without fear,” Pritzker wrote in the letter. “No child should be forced to inhale tear gas or other chemical agents while trick or treating in their own neighborhood.”
Pritzker said he is “respectfully requesting” the pause from Friday to Sunday in and around homes, schools, hospitals, parks, houses of worship and other community gatherings where Halloween celebrations are taking place.
“My request is based on a desire to protect communities throughout Chicago and also upon the long-standing guidance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security regarding enforcement actions at sensitive locations, which was unfortunately rescinded under this administration,” the governor wrote. “That guidance should be reinstated to help protect children and others from enforcement action while accessing basic needs like education and healthcare.”
He added, “Please let children be children for one holiday, free from intimidation and fear.”
Pritzker reiterated this plea during a press conference on Thursday.

The Illinois Governor’s request was prompted by unconfirmed reports of federal agents deploying tear gas to disrupt a children’s Halloween parade last weekend.
Despite the lack of evidence, Pritzker took the opportunity to smear immigration enforcement.
“Don’t believe it when they tell you that they’re busting the worst of the worst, gangs, or gang members,” he said. They’re attacking peaceful neighborhoods and terrorizing kids in Halloween parades.”

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin later issued a defiant and blistering statement that the far-left Guardian obtained:
Once again, Governor Pritzker is going out of his way to smear the law enforcement officers of DHS, who are attempting to clean up the rampant crime he facilitated. He is pushing a false narrative that DHS is targeting schools, hospitals and churches.
This is false, he knows this, but he continues to push these lies.
Our officers are facing mass assaults, vehicles used as weapons, violence, and only use crowd control methods as a last resort when repeated warnings have been given. Those who are here legally and are not breaking other laws have nothing to fear.
