Bill Maher – Screencap of Twitter/X video.
Bill Maher criticized America’s public education system on his show on Friday night, seemingly backing the Trump idea of ending the Department of Education.
Maher defended Trump Education Secretary Linda McMahon and shocked Democrat operative Donna Brazile by pointing out that southern red states like Mississippi and Louisiana are now outperforming many blue states in reading and math. That is a fact by the way, the Gateway Pundit recently reported on it.
The Trump administration should absolutely follow through on shuttering the Education Department. We spend billions upon billions on public education and the results keep getting worse.

BILL MAHER: Okay. So let me ask you about education. Yeah. It’s gonna be a big issue. Linda McMahon is the SEC Department of Education Secretary. She was talking this week about, now they, we know the Republicans have wanted to shut it down since 1979. Correct. When it was founded. So it’s not been there forever. Not long. Okay. She said it’s mostly a pass through for funds that are best managed by the states. This stuff does not sound too unreasonable to me. She does. It would not mean ending. Ending federal support for education, funding for low income students, students with disabilities. That predates the education department. And that would continue as would protecting students’ civil rights.
New York Magazine had an article, it came out today, it’s called The Big Fail. Here’s the quote that had on the cover. Student achievement has fallen off a cliff and neither Trump nor the pandemic is to blame. Why do we need the Department of Education if it has done such a shitty job? Kids don’t come out of school. First of all, they can’t read or do math anymore. And they don’t know anything. I mean, if we went to the Blue Flame tonight…
KILLER MIKE: We let’s. All those girls working their way through college, they deserve some money for education.
BILL MAHER: Right. But don’t ask them about the three branches of government. Yeah, but I mean, I really do feel like the Democratic Party, this has been their portfolio for a long time education. Right. Okay. So they, I feel like they, if they’re gonna get back into office, they have to own this issue a little. Because a lot of the states that are doing better now are like the southern states.
DONNA BRAZIE: Really? Which?
BILL MAHER: One? Yeah. Mississippi.
DONNA BRAZILE: Mississippi’s getting better than Louisiana?
BILL MAHER: See, you’re in, you’re in a bubble.
