Sometimes random and strange things happen that are unexpected. Last week, a driver on a North Carolina highway called 911 to report that a bald eagle dropped a cat through her windshield. It occurred in Swain County on US Route 74.
According to the 911 call, the driver told the dispatcher that the cat was not alive.
Fox News Reported:
A driver in North Carolina told a dispatcher that a cat carcass had crashed into her windshield along a highway after the feline was dropped from the sky by a bald eagle.
The woman called 911 on Wednesday morning to report the incident, saying that a bald eagle had dropped the cat into the passenger side of her front windshield on U.S. Route 74 in Swain County, near Bryson City, which is located about 65 miles southwest of Asheville.
It is unclear if the cat slipped from the eagle’s talons or was dropped intentionally.
“‘You may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield,’ the driver said on the 911 call. ‘It absolutely shattered my windshield.’” Fox News Reported.
The back-and-forth conversation included the dispatcher affirming her claim. The driver also explained that another person saw the cat fall from the sky.
The dispatcher asked if the cat was still alive and was told it was deceased.
Kendrick Weeks, who is part of North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission explained that the eagle could have taken the cat after it was already dead, meaning “roadkill.”
Weeks said that eagles can pursue prey that are that size, but most likely it would have been easier for them if it was deceased. She also explained that bald eagles’ behavior involves scavenging.
