Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett stormed off the House floor in utter disgust after Congress rammed through a massive $90.1 billion spending bill loaded with foreign giveaways and anti-American pork.
Burchett first pointed to an amendment offered by Chip Roy to cut the D.C. Court of Appeals budget by 20% and strip salary funding for the staffs of Judges Boasberg and Boardman.
Next up was an amendment from Eli Crane to defund the National Endowment for Democracy, an NGO long criticized by conservatives for meddling abroad and fueling censorship and regime-change operations.
Burchett also laid out another outrageous line item buried in the bill: an estimated $6.15 billion total for the Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program across multiple countries.
FMF funding includes:
$1.3B for Egypt
$3.3B for Israel
$425M + $50M for Jordan
Additional FMF allocations to other countries
Tim Burchett wrote on X, “I am so disgusted. This is not what you sent us here for. Funding liberal causes and foreign militaries and contraception. $90 Billion of your money.”
Tim Burchett:
“Tim Burchett leaving the House floor in total disgust. Chip Roy’s amendment to reduce the District of Columbia Appeals Court funding by 20% and strike the salary expense funding of Judge Boasberg and Boardman’s staff—you know, that nonsense, what they’ve been pulling—it’s ridiculous. In my opinion, they got out of whack with what’s going on.
The next one was my buddy Eli Crane, Navy SEAL. Unbelievable guy—one of my favorites up here. He prohibits funding for the National Endowment for Democracy. That was, I forget how many millions of dollars, and that didn’t pass.
I’m so frustrated with this bunch up here. Then, of course, the big bill—it cost $90.1 billion. And guess what? It passed because it had all that garbage in there. It sends $1.425 billion to Egypt. Then we’re going to give Jordan—build them a wall—and they’re firing missiles at other people. What the hell, folks? Excuse my language.
$6.15 billion for a foreign military financing program. And yeah, they’re going to come back and say, “Oh, they’re going to buy a bunch of arms from us.” Well, my mommy used to say, I don’t like making my living off the suffering of others, and that’s just pathetic.
I don’t know. I’m just disgusted. We came up here to do something, and we’re not doing it. And they’re going to pat themselves on the back—yeah, it was less than the last one—but we’re funding a bunch of garbage.
A lot of this stuff we’re funding, actually, when you dig into it, is funding things that Trump did away with. You’ve got to ask yourself, where the heck does the dadgum money go? And nobody’s asking those dadgum questions.
To me, it’s pathetic, and it’s disingenuous to the American public, and we need to start holding people accountable. Anyway, I’ll keep voting my conscience, and we’ll see what happens. Thank you all for sending me here.”
