Two teenage girls at Lake Brantley High School in Seminole County, Florida, one of whom claims to be transgender, have been charged with attempted premeditated murder after authorities say one became obsessed with Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza and plotted to kill a male classmate in a bizarre “blood ritual” to bring him back to life.
Isabelle Aurelia Valdez, 15, who court documents and police reports identify as transgender and goes by the name “Jimmy,” allegedly stalked the victim for months because he reminded her of Lanza, the gunman who killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 before taking his own life.
According to Altamonte Springs Police reports and court filings, Valdez planned to lure the boy into an upstairs bathroom during his second-period class, push him into a stall, slash his throat or stab him in the stomach, drink his blood, and place flowers on his body.
Valdez is said to have believed the act would create a “blood bond” that would resurrect Lanza.
Her 14-year-old best friend, Lois Lippert, allegedly helped by bringing flowers to school and sharpening the knife in the bathroom. The pair also gathered gloves, trash bags, wipes, cigarettes, and a lighter for the ritual.
The pair were busted when an anonymous tip was submitted through to a school safety tip line in January.
The next morning, on January 23, school officials and police pulled both girls from class.
Valdez handed over her backpack containing a large knife and the other items, along with a handwritten note to her parents.
In the note, Valdez wrote, “Dear Mama and Papa. I’m sorry for what I’m gonna do. Hopefully, you will find this paper. I want you guys to know none of this is your fault… Adam Lanza wanted it. I think it’s a fair and beautiful scene of devotion on my behalf.”
Valdez also mentioned hating people and called herself and others “disgusting.”
During the investigation, law enforcement found that Valdez had posted photos of the victim on a TikTok account titled “I Love Sandy Hook” and was already on the FBI’s radar for prior threats against the school.
After their arrest, the girls were placed together in the back of a patrol car, where their conversation was recorded without their knowledge. They joked about the plot, their mugshots, and potential prison time, according to a WFTV report.
“Valdez told Lippert that she was going to use makeup this morning for her mugshot, but she could not find anything. Valdez then said, ‘It’s over.’ Lippert replied, ‘Yea, it’s over. It doesn’t matter if you look good or not,’” prosecutors explained.
They also discussed getting “a minimum of four years,” laughed about the blood ritual, talked about spreading their story in the true crime community, and expressed hopes of being sent to a psych ward. Valdez later said in the recording, “I should have done it in the morning. He was right there, I was following behind him.”
Both of the teens have been charged as adults.
On Wednesday, Seminole County Circuit Judge held them without bond during a hearing.
Assistant State Attorney Domenick Leo told the court, “The plan was to grab the young man, push him into a stall, stab him or slice his throat. It was a desire to create a blood bond to bring the fellow back to life.”
Leo added, “I certainly understand that parents want their children home, but this is not the case.”
