WATCH: Sen. Mark Warner Blames ICE for Rise in Terror Incidents
Democrat Senator Mark Warner is attempting to shift blame for the recent rise in terror-related incidents in the United States, pointing fingers at President Donald Trump and the administration’s immigration enforcement policies.
During a recent appearance on Face the Nation, Warner argued that the real problem stems from changes made at the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Director Kash Patel.
Warner claimed the bureau has reassigned large numbers of agents away from counterterrorism and counter-espionage work and placed them on immigration enforcement duties.
According to Warner, that shift allegedly weakened national security and allowed attacks to slip through the cracks.
But that narrative ignores a far more obvious reality.
The threat facing the United States today did not suddenly appear because federal agents began enforcing immigration law. The threat grew over years of reckless border policies pushed by Democrats that allowed millions of individuals to enter the country with little to no vetting.
For years, Democrats dismissed concerns about border security as “fear-mongering.” The result was the largest border crisis in American history.
Under the Biden administration, millions of illegal immigrants crossed the southern border illegally. Border encounters soared into the millions annually, overwhelming immigration authorities and stretching law enforcement resources thin.
Among those crossing were individuals from countries with known ties to terrorism.
Even federal officials have acknowledged the growing danger. The number of illegal immigrants encountered on the FBI’s terrorist watchlist reached record levels during the height of the border crisis.
Those warnings were repeatedly ignored by Democrat lawmakers who continued to push policies that weakened enforcement and limited the ability of federal agencies to remove dangerous individuals from the country.
Now, after multiple terror-related incidents inside the United States, Democrats are attempting to blame the very immigration enforcement efforts designed to stop those threats.
Warner specifically referenced a terror incident at Old Dominion University, where a gunman who had previously served time in prison for attempting to support ISIS reportedly entered an Army ROTC class and opened fire, killing the instructor and injuring two others.
The tragedy immediately raised serious questions about how a convicted ISIS supporter was able to remain free and carry out the attack.
Instead of addressing the systemic failures that allowed such individuals to remain inside the country, Warner attempted to link the incident to FBI staffing decisions.
The argument quickly falls apart under scrutiny.
Immigration enforcement is not a distraction from national security. It is national security.
Preventing dangerous individuals from entering the United States is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of any government.
That is precisely why the Trump administration prioritized border enforcement and immigration control.
Under President Trump, illegal crossings have dropped to practically zero compared with the chaos that followed under Democrat leadership.
Strong border policies, including tighter asylum standards and expanded deportations, were designed specifically to reduce the risk of dangerous individuals entering the country.
Democrats spent years fighting those policies.
They attacked border walls. They opposed tougher deportation policies. Many even pushed cooperation between federal immigration authorities and local law enforcement to the limit.
Now the consequences of those decisions are becoming impossible to ignore.
When national security threats emerge inside the United States, the first question should not be how many FBI agents are assigned to immigration enforcement. The real question is far simpler.
Why were dangerous individuals allowed into the country in the first place?
Blaming immigration enforcement for terror threats is politically convenient. The truth is that strong borders and aggressive immigration enforcement are among the most effective tools the United States has to prevent attacks before they happen.
