Democrats are targeting every move of the Trump administration with lawfare, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a new lawsuit in federal court seeks to stop next week’s highly anticipated UFC fight on the White House South Lawn.
The fight is scheduled for one week from today, on Sunday, June 14. The lawsuit was filed in the 11th hour on Saturday by two Virginia Residents and the Public Integrity Project.
“This plan is deeply corrupt. The event, billed as ‘UFC Freedom 250,’ is (as the name suggests) being organized by the UFC, whose chief executive, Dana White, is a close friend and ally of the President. The President is giving White and his company what none have enjoyed before: unfettered access to the White House and Lincoln Memorial to stage a private, for-profit sports event, with all the promotional and branding opportunities that accompany such access,” the lawsuit argues.
The suit also implies that America’s 250th anniversary is not the real reason for the fight, but instead a personal birthday celebration for Trump that also promotes the UFC brand, enriching President Trump and UFC CEO Dana White. Trump’s birthday coincides with Flag Day, the a nationwide observance commemorating the adoption of the American flag in 1777.
It further argues that Trump’s use of the White House South Lawn to host a sporting event and the erection of the fight venue, which the White House and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) call “The Claw,” are illegal.
“In particular, the UFC is erecting a 92-foot-tall, 600-ton steel structure it calls ‘the Claw’ immediately adjacent to the Executive Residence, and is destroying much of the South Lawn in the process,” it claims.
The lawsuit highlights Trump’s comments in a recent TikTok video, where he compared The Claw to the Eiffel Tower and suggested that he’s never going to take it down.
“We’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to some people. It’s going to have the big UFC fight on June 14. And I’m looking at it, and maybe we’ll never, ever take it down,” Trump said.

The lawsuit, filed Saturday by the Public Integrity Project on behalf of a Vietnam War veteran and a civic activist, argues the structure erected on the White House grounds is not authorized without congressional approval or environmental review.
It also argues the use of the White House grounds “to stage a private, for-profit sports event, with all the promotional and branding opportunities that accompany such access” will financially benefit UFC President Dana White and Trump himself, citing a report in the spring that Trump bought $50,000 in stock in UFC’s parent company.
The lawsuit pushes back on the assertion from the administration that the Ultimate Fighting Championship match falls under the authorization from Congress for events to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, saying the event “is not in any material sense a ‘celebration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence’—it is, instead, a celebration of the UFC’s brand and the 80th anniversary of Donald Trump’s birth.”
The White House South Lawn event, set for June 14, coincides with Trump’s 80th birthday. A weigh-in for the fighters is set for the day before at the Lincoln Memorial.
“The Lincoln Memorial is sacred ground, and it honors everyone who has ever worn this country’s uniform,” plaintiff Paul Romano, a retired Air Force sergeant and Vietnam veteran, said in a news release. “Using it as a backdrop for a for-profit cage fight so the President and his friends can make money is a desecration.”
