Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made a stunning admission, at least by Iranian propaganda standards.
In comments made during a meeting of the Government Information Council, which was televised by Iranian media, Pezeshkian admitted that Iran has suffered ‘harm’ from US attacks.
Further, he urged officials to ‘face reality.’
Per CBS News:
During a meeting with executive agencies under the guises of the Government Information Council, attended by a number of his cabinet members, Pezeshkian said Iranian leaders “should avoid any tone or voices that create division, but we must also face reality; It is not the case that we have not suffered harm.”
“Anyone in a position of leadership must speak honestly and transparently to their society and their people,” he said in remarks aired by state TV.
“Misleading information, false messaging, or portraying a reality in which ‘they are collapsing while we are prospering’ is unacceptable. The truth is that both we and others face challenges.”
Pezeshkian also warned his citizens to expect “inflation, shortages, and economic hardship” because the country is at war.
Per Iran International English:
“We will definitely have inflation,” Pezeshkian said at a gathering of public relations officials from state institutions.
“We are fighting and we must accept the hardship that comes with it.”

Iran, Pezeshkian said, had suffered serious economic and infrastructure damage and could not pretend conditions were normal.
“It is not the case that we have not been harmed,” he said. “We must take on a wartime condition.”
Attacks, he said, had damaged around 230 million cubic meters of gas infrastructure as well as power plants, petrochemical facilities, and major industrial sites, including Iran’s largest steel producer.
Pezeshkian has had to publicly address Iran’s actions during the war.
In April, he was forced to issue a surprise televised address apologizing for Iranian strikes on neighboring countries while simultaneously warning that Iran would never surrender to outside pressure.
Pezeshkian acknowledged that Iranian attacks had struck targets beyond its borders during the conflict and issued a direct apology to countries in the region.
While portrayed by the media as a “moderate,” as though that exists in the brutal regime structure, Pezeshkian oversaw crackdowns during recent protests that left thousands killed and tens of thousands arrested.
He weakly apologized, saying publicly, “We are ashamed before the people, and we are obligated to assist all those who were harmed in these incidents. We are not seeking confrontation with the people.”
